For this year’s Academic Technology Expo, we tried something a little different, a virtual keynote. We did this for a couple reasons. The first was due to the fact that weather in January can be unpredictable and the second was a desire to showcase a way for OU faculty to bring speakers to their classes cheaply and easily. Despite performing a full run through with our speaker, Jeff Selingo, the day before (using an identical setup), we still experienced technical difficulties the day of the event. These issues remind us that, as educators, we frequently have to improvise and they also remind us that technology is not always perfect. We hope that these issues will not deter you from trying out virtual speakers in your own classes!
We would like to apologize again for the issues we encountered during the keynote and to provide an error free version of the talk. To view the recorded talk, please visit http://goo.gl/6v97KA (requires log in with your 4+4 and password). Additionally, Jeff would like to schedule a time for a live Q&A with us sometime in the near future. Keep an eye out for further information regarding this soon!
We have gotten great feedback from attendees about the keynote speaker (both positive and negative) and will be taking this into account for our speaker selection and setup in 2015. If you have additional suggestions for speakers you would like us to consider, please email email@example.com.
